“After eight years of hosting a hot-air balloon festival, Cathedral City made a bold move: placing an order for its own heat-lifted craft. The logo for the city’s November festival emblazons half the envelope design. The other half recognizes Visit Greater Palm Springs, the local destination marketing agency that foots the cost to enter the balloon into festivals beyond the Coachella Valley to garner sky-high name recognition.
In 2023, Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival added “International” to its name, with pilots and their crews from England, Canada, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, and Thailand in addition to representation from across the United States. Attendance reached 25,000.
