“It’s interesting the impact a short film can have,” says Jennifer Van Kamp, programming and education manager of Palm Springs International ShortFest. “Films evoke so much emotion, whether it’s through humor or getting you all choked up or hitting the heartstrings of an experience. They can pack so much into just a few minutes.”
Indeed, a certain thrill overcomes moviegoers as they sit in a theater, disbelief willingly and firmly suspended, and experience every element of a tale — writing, direction, acting, editing, sound, cinematography. It is an escape whose temptation and allure E.B. White once referred to as “the opium pipe of a dark cinema.” Simply put, humans love stories, and the sights and sounds of the silver screen deliver in ways that are immediate and irresistible…”
